The Meridian Society is a charitable organisation committed to the promotion of Chinese culture and, through this, the fostering of Sino-British understanding. In a world that is increasingly troubled by differences in beliefs and customs, we aim to seek similarities of thought and ideals. In comparing the Chinese civilisation with other great civilisations of the world, we hope to encourage deeper understanding and appreciation of the values and traditions of each and to demonstrate the validity of Confucius’ tenet that we can all strive for common goals while retaining our individual characteristics. Furthermore, we will endeavour to relate these shared aspirations to present-day society, so that the meridian we create will not be a dividing line between East and West, but a meeting-point for all nations of the world.
